Under the banner of ‘Society Matters’, Yorkshire Building Society give their employees the chance to take part in community and charity based projects, and they get to do this within their contracted hours of work. As efforts of corporate responsibility go, this doesn’t seem such a bad one, and was for the people involved a bit of fun and a bit of honest hard work.

I met up with a bunch of them at Blaise Castle Estate, an 18th century mansion on the outskirts of Bristol, where they were helping to clear the estate gardens which over the past ten years have fallen into total disuse. With white fluffy clouds in the sky, it was one of those days where the Sun was in and out, good conditions to keep me on my toes. Since 2013, a group of volunteers named the Blaise Community Garden have been slowly claiming back from the wilderness the one acre site.
